Science and Beers presents: Microbes on the Microphone

Diverse: Foredrag

Title: Microbes on the Microphone. The talk: Step into the hidden world of microorganisms-tiny, unseen creatures that play a massive role in our health, climate, and the very fabric of life on Earth.

How can something so small exert such powerful influence? Though we can't hear them, these microbes are constantly talking to each other, and thereby shaping our world in ways we're just beginning to understand. Tonight, we'll hand over the microphone to the microbes, uncovering the secrets of their hidden conversations and explaining why understanding them is crucial for us all

The speaker:
Nathalie Eiris Henriksen is a marine microbiologist and researcher at the Technical University of Denmark. She earned her Ph.D. in 2022, focusing on how microorganisms in the sea communicate. In 2023, she received her first independent research grant from the Villum Foundation to study the critical role of microorganisms in the carbon cycle within kelp forests, which are of great importance for our environment and climate. In April 2024, she won the "Forskerfesten - Ph.d. Cup 2024," broadcast on DR1, for her ability to explain her research on how microorganisms communicate.

The concept:

Science and Beers is a popular science talk series. The goal of Science and Beers is to make science fun, accessible and to normalise science conversations in a social setting.
Science and Beers is funded by the Novo Nordisk Fund. These events are open to everyone. The event will be in English.
