Danish guitarist Lars Bech Pilgaard is set to release his solo album, "Folklórica," on August 30, 2024. To celebrate, Final Descent is excited to present an intimate release show at Metronomen in Frederiksberg. At this event, Lars Bech Pilgaard will perform solo in a scenography set by visual designer Piotr Winievicz, who will transform the concert space into a sensory experience for both the ears and eyes.
The album, divided into four chapters across its four vinyl sides, features stripped-down guitar, prepared guitar, banjo, and electric guitar. The music flows seamlessly from delicate bow strokes and acoustic polyrhythms to primitive blues drones, ritualistic banjo serenades, organ-like ambient electric guitar, and bagpipe-inspired primal fuzz.
On "Folklórica", Pilgaard explores his deep fascination with folk music, intertwining abstract expression with tangible flow. The result is an ambitious masterpiece that reimagines the potential of string instruments through a dialogue with rich folk traditions. The album serves as an archive of human, natural, and spiritual communication, investigating music's power as a universal catalyst.
"Folklórica" will be available as a double vinyl with artwork by Andreas Korsgaard and digitally, accompanied by a documentary film by Pilgaard's long-term visual collaborator, Mathias Winther Kjeldsen. The film captures the creation process, highlighting the soulful connection between the artist and his instruments, and documenting improvisations in natural settings that create a magical bond between the music and its environment.
Lars Bech Pilgaard has been a prominent figure in the music scene for over a decade, known for his energetic and sonically challenging guitar playing. Whether performing as a sideman with Bisse, Anja Jacobsen, Maria Faust, Mija Milovic, or in his own ensembles SVIN, Klimaforandringer, and Slowburn, Pilgaard's distinctive style is unmistakable. His music, which spans the realms of noise, sacred nerve, and organic improvisation, is ever-evolving, embracing both abstract and concrete elements. In December 2023, Pilgaard received two DMA Jazz Awards and was nominated for a Steppeulv Award as Musician of the Year in 2019.
The concert is part of our limited-capacity series at Metronomen, 144000, where only 40 tickets are available for each show. The ticket includes a glass of wine. The concert is supported by Frederiksberg Kommune and Frederiksberg Fonden. Thanks!
